When I first started working with Az I wanted to write better. She didn’t just fix my grammar and give it back to me. She taught me why she was making changes and gave a myriad of tips for me to become a better writer. Look — I just used a fancy word! Prior to working with Az I was very hesitant about writing proposals and grants for work. Now, i access my voice and my writing has been recognized by higher ups in the company. Yay to progress! Azadeh was my teacher for ASL 1. Learning a new language is challenging but she really made me feel comfortable while we were working on my communication skills.

It’s difficult for me to think about my ASL journeys without thinking about Azadeh Malekan. She taught me for ASL 2 and 4, but even beyond the classroom she is still instructing me. “Az” reignited my passion for American Sign Language through her own love for this beautiful language and culture. With continual support, fun games, and a wealth of knowledge, Az created a learning environment free of judgment or criticism, where putting yourself out there doesn’t seem so nerve-racking because all she wants her students to do it try.
